ETL Statement

ETL is an acronym for "Electrical Testing Laboratory". It is very similar to the familiar "UL" (Underwriters Laboratory) seal, for household appliances. The difference is, ETL is strictly for commercial electrical products.

ETL is an independent organization, which sets standards of electrical safety for products. To receive certification, a company like HIX must pay to have them test their products and the products must meet very rigid standards.

The annual fees are very substantial because not only does ETL test and certify products in their laboratory, they also make surprise visits to the manufacturing plants each year. This ensures that manufacturers continue to produce products that met the original certification standards.

ETL is not owned by any manufacturer, nor is it run by the government (which, in our opinion, means it is probably better run and more efficient).

ETL certification means a product meets the highest practical standards of safety.
