Swingman 20D
“The Next Generation”
16x20
Swing-Away Heat Press
Fully digital – Easiest to open and close manual press on the
market!
As former retailers, we used heat presses for 22 years and are not easily
impressed. We are with the Swingman 20. If you want to really learn
about this press, continue reading. Prices are at the bottom of this
page.
One reason we
refer to the Swingman 20 as “The Next Generation” of heat
presses is due to their revolutionary new
opening and closing mechanism.
Technically
called “progressive linkage”, this unique method provides
a mechanical advantage similar to that of a pulley (a small amount of
force on the “hand” end produces a much larger force on
the other end).
Regular
“arm-power” heat presses require a lot of force (at maximum
pressure) to operate. With the Swingman 20 at maximum pressure, we can
literally open and close the press with two fingers! While maximum pressure
is seldom needed and this ability may not seem important to the novice,
it will to a pro.
If you have
hundreds of pressings to do in one day (even at standard medium pressure),
using about one-tenth the energy as you normally would with a regular
press, will be appreciated by your arms and shoulders.
These additional
benefits add to our enthusiasm
-
Totally
integrated digital time and temperature. Turn the heat
press on and easily set the temperature (with the press open), with
the menu button and the up and down arrows under the Red
LCD screen. When the press reaches your pre-set temperature
(max is 450º), it holds it within +/- 2º. Next, set the
time for pressing your items (on the same screen). When you close
the press, the time starts counting backwards. When it reaches “0”,
the buzzer goes off and when you lift the heater block, the time
automatically resets for the next pressing. Note: the current temperature
of the press is always displayed until the press is closed. Then
the LCD screen automatically switches to your preset time, as it
starts counting backwards.
-
Swing-away
design. Upon opening, the heater block first lifts straight
up. It is then “swung” to the right. The procedure is
reversed when closing. Using the convenient swing-arm,
the heater block is swung back left (an internal stop positions it
over the lower platen). It is then ready to close. It should be noted
that the “swing” requires very little effort.
-
Why a swing-away?
While clam-shell (straight up and down opening and closing presses
like the HIX HT-400 and HT-600) presses are excellent, here are some
benefits that many like. First, is the fact that not only is the
heat not in front of your face but also there is no danger
of accidentally running your hands up into a very hot heater block
(like on a clamshell). Second, is the ability to achieve very
even pressure on large, thick items or small, thick, multiple
items, because all pressure goes straight down, when the press is
closed.
-
Accepts
setups up to 1.75” thick. This is a non-benefit if
you will never do anything except t-shirts or other thin items. Any
HIX clamshell press works splendid for that task. However, this
is a very desirable benefit in many situations (like tiles,
plaques, really thick jackets, etc.). The picture depicts 6, .25”
ceramic tiles, being readied for sublimation and sitting on 3/8”
of heat resistant felt.
-
Print
Gap Gage Settings. All manual heat presses have adjustable
pressure settings. This is done by turning the big black knob on the
press clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to decrease pressure.
This presents no problem, when setting it once, for the same item.
It can be more difficult if you are constantly changing the head height
because of different thicknesses of materials. The Swingman 20 assists
in this task with its’ print gap gage setting, located on the
back support post. As you determine the correct head height for a
new (thickness) item, just make note of where the pointer is on the
setting gage.
-
ETL Listed.
The Electrical Testing Laboratory (ETL) listing for
manufacturers is similar to the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) listing
for household appliances. This is a quote from their web site, “The
ETL SEMKO division of Intertek is a leader in testing, certifying,
and inspecting products for global market access. The ETL Listed Mark
is issued to products that have met the requirements
of product safety standards in the US and Canada”(
for residential and commercial use). On a practical basis this
means that all components, wiring, connections and construction meets
a pre-described set of specifications as outlined in that standard.
This means that the press is safe in your home or business. HIX spends
tens of thousands of dollars each year, for this peace of mind.
-
Lifetime warranty
on the heater element and a one year warranty on the press.
A warranty is only as good as the company behind it. HIX has been
manufacturing heat presses for over 42 years.
We are one of their largest dealers and sell a lot of their presses
each year. Last year, for example, less than
.005% of the HIX production presses that we sold needed any extra
attention.

Whew! Thanks for hanging in
there with us. We know this page has been long but continue to believe
that you can’t make intelligent decisions, without getting all the
facts.
Yes, we think this is a great
press, that will serve you well for many years, but it won’t fit
every need or budget. In selecting a heat press, consider the size that
you must have to do your work. Then, consider the other features that
you think will benefit you the most now and in the future.
